What Is a Full Service Community School?

Deer River’s community schools are founded on the belief that every child should be able to grow up with the opportunity to achieve their dreams and contribute to the well-being of society, and that schools play a crucial role in helping children achieve that dream. The Full Service Community School (FSCS) model provides wrap-around services for students and families that reduce barriers to academic success. More . . . This nationally recognized and federally funded initiative helps our students to find hope, happiness and success by improving the coordination, integration and accessibility of resources and services.

School Services

King Elementary School

King has been a Full Service Community School (FSCS) since 2017 as a result of listening to school and community members talk about student and family needs. The focus of King School’s FSCS is to connect students, families, and community members to needed services. Because we are a FSCS, students miss fewer days of school and more prepared to learn.

Deer River High School

Realizing successes at King, school and community partners agreed that high school students and families would also benefit from the Full Service Community School model (FSCS). In the spring of 2020, we were awarded a 5-year federal grant to expand FSCS to include the high school. This grant provides additional staff to help connect students and families with resources and services.

Family Resources

We work with students and families as partners in problem-solving. Connect with us to see what we can achieve together. Some of the services we help coordinate and connect for students and families include eye exams and glasses, dental services, food, clothing, household goods, transportation, mental health services, and healthcare.
