About

In the fall of 2014, the Deer River School District began the implementation of a Teacher Growth and Development model based on Dr. Robert Marzano's research.

While originally driven by Minnesota legislation that changed teacher evaluation requirements, the choice to use the Marzano Teacher Evaluation model was based on the use of research-based practices to focus on teaching strategies that are proven to have an effect on student learning.

The Marzano model uses a rubric that looks at teaching in 4 domains:

  1. Classroom Strategies and Behaviors

  2. Planning and Preparing

  3. Reflecting on Teaching

  4. Collegiality and Professionalism

The Deer River District will also be using the Marzano School Leadership Model for Principal evaluation and the Marzano District Leadership Model for Superintendent evaluation. These models align with the Teacher model creating an aligned system for school improvement.
