• The district nurse is available 8 AM - 3 PM on student days. She will be splitting her time between King Elementary and DRHS.
• Vision and hearing screenings are completed each Fall for grades K-3, 5, 7 and 10. Students may also be screened by request. Students who have difficulty passing will be rescreened at a later date by the nurse, or referred for further evaluation. Any students requiring a referral will have a letter sent home to caregivers.
• Lice checks will be done as needed throughout the year. If cases of lice/nits are found, parents will be notified via call and/or letter sent home with your child.
• We are required by law to ensure all students have received the age appropriate required vaccines, or completed a conscientious objector form. This is enforced. If you need assistance with updating your child’s immunizations or obtaining a conscientious objector form, please contact the nurse or Full Service staff.
• A flu shot clinic hosted by Itasca County Public Health is held each Fall at King and DRHS. Information will go home in Tuesday folders once the date is set.
• Health plans are required for students with conditions such as seizures, asthma, diabetes, severe allergy, etc. Involved staff will have access to this information to appropriately respond to health needs. Please let us know right away if your student has any health conditions, even minor ones.
• If prescription medication is needed at school, the parent must bring the medication to the nurse and sign a consent form to allow administration at school. Please DO NOT send medications to school with your student.
• All medications MUST be labeled with an up to date pharmacy label. You can request extras from your pharmacy when you pick up your student’s prescription(s).
• Rescue inhalers and epi pens are kept in the health office for all K-6th grade students. If you would like your student to keep it with them, please contact the nurse to discuss.
• Students in grades 7-12 may carry their inhaler and/or Epi pen with approval from their parent/guardian and the school nurse.
